From the IRA to the Islamic State: The Evolving Terrorism Threat in Europe (CSIS)
I wanted to emulate newsprint design with simplicity and bold use of information. This option strips down design to its purest form in an effort to push forward the vital information and research so the involvement of the U.S. doesn’t get lost. Also, going back to the newsprint aspect, I thought it would be fun and subtle to visually incorporate the news riddle—“what’s black and white and read all over?” So, this option is black and white and red all over.
The cover is an image of the IRA in the 70s and IS on the bottom. I added gritty texture that removes details to it to demonstrate how similar these threatening groups are.
Art directed and designed this report for the CSIS Transnational Threats program (TNT).
